Throughout their history, humans have developed different tools for different purposes. Home cleaning equipments have diversified enormous in the last 10-15 years. While the majority are new inventions, there are also others that come as an improvement to earlier versions. Dyson has a long history in producing units that strive to eliminate allergens and dust mites. Their Allergy models have recently been improved with the Cinetic technology. But things have evolved even further. The latest cordless, Dyson V6, has a separate version called the V6 Mattress, which comes as a special handheld device that can be used to vacuum mats, pillows, blankets, any other kind of sheeting, sofas, car interiors and more.
I bet many of you think that having a vacuum cleaner only for this job alone is an overkill, but I’ll assure you it’s not. Here’s what you’ll learn in the following minutes:
- why this product is worth it
- what are it’s main specs

Specifications
Suction power | The device uses 15 cyclones disposed in 2 tiers, that makes it overly powerful. The motor can spin at about 110,000 revolutions per minute. This is among the fastest spins you’ll ever find in a motor mounted in a domestic appliance. The suction power reaches to a maximum of 100AW, meaning that this unit produces a decent air flow, able to penetrate the mattress fibers and to collect dead skin cells, dust mites and their droppings, pollen, molds and pet hair & dander. The cleaning power is enhanced by the motorized mattress tool head. |
Input power | The digital motor of the device will need about 350W for it to spin. Basically, this is a low consumption, meaning that the battery can last for about 20 minutes. However, in case you will be using the motorized brush, it will take about 15 minutes before the battery drains. There is also the boost mode, which will use more power and make your vacuum last for only 6 minutes. The battery will be completely charged in about 3 and a half hours. All V6 models come with a trigger that enhances the run-time. The unit only works if you apply pressure to this button, implying that the battery power will be used efficiently. |
Dust capacity | You would think that the dustbin of this device is somewhat smaller, at a capacity of 0.12 gallons. But remember, you are vacuuming mats and sheeting, which can’t possibly accommodate so much debris to fill this container. Moreover, you can empty the dustbin easily with the help of a push-button system. Removing it from the dustbin can be quite easy, but getting rid of the dirt that sticks in the corners of the dustbin will challenge you a bit. |
Filtration system efficiency | This handheld device is fitted with a HEPA filter, but many of today’s vacuum cleaners have this as well. What differentiates this unit from the competition is that the whole machine is HEPA airtight, meaning no particles bigger than 0.3 microns will escape it. The HEPA filtration system is located at the back of the motor. It is placed inside the green cap, making it quite easy to manage, when you want to wash or change the filters. |
Weight and Dimensions | Although is a handheld, this device is incredibly lightweight, weighting only 3.5 pounds. Most of this weight is centered inside the handle, for the sake of maneuverability. You can easily carry it around using only one hand. It measures 8.2″ x 15.6″ x 5.7″. This makes it compact enough to reach extremely tight places easily, without much challenge. |
Warranty | This device comes with a warranty of 2 years, so you are covered against most common things that may go wrong. |
Accessories | The Dyson V6 Mattress comes with a number of accessories that you can enjoy: A crevice tool – for tight corners and crevices. A mini soft dusting brush with soft bristles – for upholstery and sensible flat surfaces. A combination accessory tool – for cleaning furniture edges, shelves or table tops. Unfortunately, you won’t get a charging dock for this model, but given its purpose, I don’t think you’ll miss this feature too much. |
Special features | Given the shape on the motorized mattress tool, this unit produces low levels of sound, definitely lower than a V6 trigger i.e. |
Usability | This is an easy to assemble cordless vacuum cleaner. The parts fit together by click-systems, which allow you to know if the unit has been assembled correctly. However, some users find somehow over the hand the fact that you need to keep pressing the power button as you are vacuuming. Still, the unit is light and has a lovely design. |
Price | The price is quite small for a Dyson. Check out a decent offer for the V6 Mattress, or shop directly on producer’s page. |

Final comments and VGM
The V6 Mattress is a device with a super elegant design, helping allergy and asthma sufferers alike to improve their lives. If you didn’t know, humans shed thousands of dead skin cells every minute. These dead cells provide food for small organisms called dust mites. Not only they eat these cells, but they also make around 10-12 airborne droppings per day, making the air even more dangerous to breathe. And they are not the worst threat. Molds also consist in a serious health risk. 1g of dust may accommodate 100,000 of mold spores. Pollen deposits itself on bare floor, and becomes airborne if agitated. That is why you need to vacuum more often in the season. And these are just a few of the things you are exposed to each day. Luckily, Dyson V6 comes to our aid. Along with its special mission, you can also use it to clean some other areas, like your shelves or the corners of the rooms, along with wardrobes, windows and so on. Even though it is a bit pricey, IMO it is worth the buy. Here’s the final VGM:
