I’m back with a review of a price-competitive carpet cleaner from Bissell: the ProHeat 2X Premier. Anyone who has carpets knows exactly what kind of dirt they can accumulate with time. Pets are one of the factors, but they are not the only ones who build up the debris. Others include heavy traffic, the outside environment, and even the type of carpet. Vacuums have to work overtime just to remove pet hair that has been embedded into carpets and rugs. This wears them out, which in term requires frequent replacements, especially if you are using a model not built for heavy duty asks. I’ve covered a while ago the main carpet cleaning techniques, but today I’d like to focus on the cleaning system developed by Bissell in the recent years. Today you will learn:
- why is the ProHeat 2X Premier one of the best carpet cleaners from Bissell
- what are its good, but also its bad points
- where to get it cheap
To get a better grip on how you will use this unit, I’ve listed bellow a video from Bissell, which thoroughly explains the cleaning process:

Specifications and features
Suction & scrub power | With any carpet cleaner, one of the most important items to look at is its cleaning power. The ProHeat 2X premier has a powerful motor that gives great suction prowess. It also is incredibly effective with scrubbing floors and general cleaning, thanks to its 10 rows of bristles. Bissell recommends to use the appliance in combination with its cleaning solutions, some of which I was talking about a while ago. And another thing I bet you were wondering: yes you can do bare floors and tiles. You just have to use the bare floor tool (that you can purchase separately). With this unit, the cleaning process is very simple:
|
Input power | It runs on 12 amps input power, for 120V. The producer recommends you not to use a plug adapter. |
Tank capacity | The ProHeat 47A23 has a 1.25 gallon tank capacity used to fill debris from carpets, upholstery, and even from your car (provided you use the attachment tool). The tank is labeled, so it’s easy to know when to empty. When the dirty water reaches the “FULL” line, it is time. Simply release it into your sink or toilet, wherever you please. There is no need for replacement bags or anything of that sort. |
Filtration system | Any carpet cleaner worth its money needs to have a good filtration system. This is necessary to ensure that all of the dust and debris sucked into the machine stays where it belongs. A cheaper, poorly designed unit will often redistribute dirty air because a poor filtration system. This is something users of the ProHeat Premier do not have to be concerned with. There are 2 liquid filters. One red lint basket needs to be cleaned after each use, as hair and large chunks of soil may accumulate inside. The other is located at the fluid connection point, which needs to be checked and cleaned from time to time, to ensure the continuous water flow. |
Weight and Dimensions | This product weighs 26 pounds, which is comparable to other similarly sized products. Despite its weight, this carpet cleaner glides rather easily over floors without using excessive force on your part. The brushes cover a wide 12 inch swath of floor with each passing. The unit measures 19.5 x 13 x 45 inches. |
Warranty | It’s covered by a 3-year warranty. |
Accessories | The 3 inch tough stain removal tool is a great accessory that helps you get rid of stains and dirt in your stairs or any place that may be otherwise hard to reach. Also comes with a 48 oz cleaning formula. Other accessories are available for purchase from Bissell and can be found here. My recommendations are the Deep Reach Pet Tool, the Powered TurboBrush Hand Tool and the 6″ Stair Tool. |
Special features | Surround suction – leaves your carpets almost dry with the full-width suction located in the front of the floor nozzle. Heatwave Technology – Constant heat maintains the water temperature throughout the cleaning process. This is possible by using the exhaust heat. If you use hot water, the water will remain hot. If you want to wash pet urine, you should use cold water, which will remain cold just enough to get the job done. |
Usability | Takes advantage of a 22 foot cord, giving you ample maneuverability to cover most rooms without the nuisance of stopping and moving the cord from outlet to outlet. |
Price | The best thing about this model is its price. Bissell already accustomed us with cheap yet high quality models, and the ProHeat 2X Premier makes no difference. And with this deal I’ve found, I’m pretty sure you’ll be more than satisfied. |
The ProHeat Pet carpet cleaner comes equipped with a built in water heating system which provides the maximum amount of cleaning power. It automatically takes the hot tap water you put into the machine, and heats it a further 25 degrees for maximum cleaning effectiveness. The system uses 10 rows of rotating brushes which take any dirt left behind on your carpet and simply lift it away into the large collection tank. It suctions, sprays and scrubs your carpet with each passing. These are the types of features needed to eliminate stains that are already set in, or fresh dirt and mud. The results make your carpet and rugs just like new with minimum effort. Also, you’ll never have to worry about mixing formula with the right amount of water as the ProHeat does all of this for you automatically. This lets users attack dirt spots before they spread around further and deeper into the carpet. You can also use the Proheat to future proof your carpets with Scotch-guard Protector without risking losing the manufacturer’s warranty.
Pro reviews from happy customers
The ProHeat 2X Premier is one of Bissell’s most newest models. As one of the leading brands in the floor cleaning industry, one can expect a certain level of quality with any of their products and the reviews generally agree with this assumption. Across online shops, hundreds of reviews recommend this product with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The general consensus is that this is a heavy duty model able to handle anything asked of it.
Users praise its ability to make floors and carpets appear completely spotless, leaving behind no history whatsoever of stains and dirt from their pets or children. It also makes floors smell clean and new once more. One particular user was able to completely eliminate a cat’s urine stain and smell from their sofa by using this Bissell Model. Guests might not even be able to tell you’re a pet owner after the Bissell is done with the floor.
Others have said the super cleaning powers of the Bissell ProHeat have saved them the security deposits on their rentals by fixing stains that looked impossible to remove.
Last but not least, its low price is what attracts the most. Check out this great deal for this product.
Negative points
Spraying and clogging issues appear to be the most common negative comment from reviewers. A number of users have had issues with the ProHeat 2X Premiere gradually sucking up less water, while others claim it disperses less than sufficient amounts. These are issues that can be fixed rather simply and Bissell has offered a tutorial on how to ensure that this feature works properly. If for some reason these tutorials do not work and if it is indeed broken, your warranty should generally cover the fix if it occurs early enough in the product’s life span.
Others have had to replace belts within the first year or so. You can find out more about this issue directly from the manual of the product. Most of these issues are rare, with the general idea about the product still being positive.

Final Thoughts
Overall, this is a great product that can do some hard core cleaning. It returns your floors and carpets to a like new look and feel. It even removes many of the smells left behind by your pets and children. While there are some noteworthy issues about the ProHeat 47A23’s durability, most have no issues with it whatsoever and any issue that does arise is generally an easy fix. Bissell also has a good level of customer care and will make sure they do anything in their power to get your machine running again at a functioning level. Overall, I would safely recommend this product to pet owners in need of some serious cleaning, with a VGMcc of 93, pretty close to the Bissell Big Green I’ve reviewed a bit earlier:
