Vacuums Guide » Reviews » Hoover FH50150 Review – Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Cleaner
Hoover’s Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 is an upright carpet cleaner that deep-cleans even the most stubborn stains, dirt, and grime from your carpet. It is easy to use and convenient carpet cleaning solution that every household with carpeted floors should use.
Hoover’s story began in 1908 in Ohio, United States when a gentleman called William Henry Hoover founded the company. Hoover wowed America with his brilliant vacuum cleaners and quickly branched his business out to the United Kingdom, where they became a big household name.
In the 20th century, Hoover was such a big name that people called all vacuum cleaners ‘Hoovers’, regardless of their manufacturer. Hoover is still a big player in the cleaning appliances department in the United States and Europe.
Fast forward to 2020, and Hoover has a massive portfolio of products, from white goods such as washing machines and dryers to vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, hard floor cleaners, and accessories. Hoover Europe is now owned by Haier and is just as popular today as it was 20 or 30 years ago.
In this review, we will take a look at the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 Carpet Cleaner. We will pick apart its features, discover the pros and cons of the carpet cleaner, and recommend or discourage its use in our review summary. So, let’s begin!
The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 carpet cleaner has fast-drying and in-depth cleaning features. It lifts away embedded dirt and grime and even has a Spin Scrub accessory designed to banish pet mess and stubborn dirt.
You can use the Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 on multiple fabrics around your home, not just on carpet. Using the carpet cleaner to deep clean your couch is excellent and saves you from throwing a lot of money out on hiring expensive carpet cleaners.
It is easy to get confused between the Power Scrub Deluxe and the Power Scrub Elite. On the face of it, they are both essentially the same carpet cleaner, just different sizes. However, when you look a little closer at their features, you will notice that the Elite is much bigger than the Deluxe and it has a much more full cleaning path.
The similarities between the two models are that they are more or less the same weight (give or take a few pounds), both have 10 Amps power, a 360-degree Spin Brush System, and a Dual Water Tank System. So, as you can see, we understand if you get a little mixed up between the two!
The Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 is designed to be a relatively compact carpet cleaner that provides you with that deep-clean feeling after every use. Carpets are notoriously hard to clean and take a very long time to dry, even when you call in the professionals. Hoover wanted to allow busy households to clean their carpets thoroughly without taking the kids or pets out of the house for the whole day.
Who’s It For?
The Power Deluxe FH50150 Carpet Cleaner is ideal for households with carpeted floors. Vacuuming alone does not remove deeply embedded dirt and grime, especially if you have a high pile carpet.
Families with pets and small children need to take extra care with carpet floors. Food spillages, pet mess, and other dirt will start to smell if left unattended or is not removed properly. The only thing is, you never really know when something has been spilled because let’s face it, is your toddler going to fess up?
The Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 gives its users the peace of mind that every spillage and mess is being cleaned up, even if you weren’t aware of it. It is the perfect tool to use to deep clean couches, curtains, and other upholstery items too.
Anyone that wants their carpet cleaned but doesn’t want to deal with wet carpet that takes hours to dry would love the Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150. The carpet cleaner is not appropriate for anyone that struggles to lift and maneuver heavy cleaning equipment, as this model weighs roughly 19 pounds.

What We Like About Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe GH50150 Carpet Cleaner
This carpet cleaner gets a big thumbs up for how well it rids the carpet of pet accidents. Yes, that is right, it is brilliant at getting pet poop and pee out of the carpet and leaves the carpet looking as good as new all thanks to its 360 degrees Spin Scrub Brush Technology.
Bad smells are easy to remove using this cleaner. Carpets that are full of dirt and dust start to smell stuffy and old. No amount of vacuum cleaning or scented candles can get rid of this type of odor. The Power Deluxe FH50150 rids carpets of their stale smell and leaves them looking, feeling, and smelling as good as new.
It is super easy to assemble out of the box. Simply fill up the tank with water and a cleaning solution, attach the handle, and you are good to go.
The clean water is kept separate from the dirty water, which is excellent for several reasons. The dirty water is easy to empty once the tank is full, but more importantly, the carpet is cleaned by freshwater only. This means that the cleaning results are not compromised by cleaning with dirty water.
You get some accessories with the carpet cleaner that are extremely useful. We especially liked the upholstery tool and the stair tool, although all accessories are brilliant and easy to attach.
What We Don’t Like About Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe GH50150 Carpet Cleaner
Unfortunately, the carpet cleaner leaks a lot. The leak doesn’t stop when the carpet cleaner is turned off either, and you may need to empty the water after every use to avoid leaks damaging the carpet.
The Power Scrub Deluxe does not heat the water up as it cleans. In order to get the best clean possible, you should add boiling or very hot water to the clean water tank and start cleaning immediately. Cleaning with cold or warm water will not get you the desired cleaning results, especially if you need to clean pet fluids or rid your carpet of bad smells.
The bristles are vacuum powered, which means that you have to clean very slowly in order for the carpet cleaner to do its job correctly. If you try and rush the cleaning process, the brushes slow down and struggle with fast-paced cleaning.
Although the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe is marketed as an excellent carpet cleaning solution for households with families and pets, it doesn’t work fast enough, and cleaning a big room would take a very long time.
There is a safety feature that is less than convenient. This feature turns the carpet cleaner off as soon as the carpet texture changes, elevation level changes, or when the cleaner meets the edge of the stairs. On the face of it, this seems like a good feature, but in reality, it interrupts your cleaning flow.

Overview Of Features
Hoover’s Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 has many desired features. The Hoover carpet cleaner is designed with you in mind. Its goal is to make cleaning your carpets feel like less of a chore and to keep your home feeling comfortable and clean. Below is an overview of the Power Scrub Deluxe top features:
SpinScrub Brush Technology
Hoover designed a 360-degree brush that scrubs carpets from all angles. The SpinScrub brush is patent protected and unique to Hoover.
DualV Nozzle
There is nothing worse than taking the time out of your hectic schedule to clean, only to find that there are still dirty patches left on the carpet. The DualV nozzle has been designed to provide equal and robust suction for even cleaning abilities.
Dual Tank Technology
Clean and dirty water is kept separately. Not using dirty water to clean your carpet ensures that stains, dirt, and smells are stripped from the rug, leaving behind a fresh and clean carpet for you to enjoy.
Quick Dry Technology
What is worse than a dirty carpet? A wet one! Not only are wet carpets uncomfortable and unpleasant to walk on, if they take too long to dry, they can also make the room stuffy and damp. The carpet cleaners’ Quick Dry technology pushes heated air onto the wet carpet to help it dry faster than natural air drying.
Automatic Detergent Mixing System
Finding the right ratio of detergent and water can sometimes feel like an unsolvable mathematical equation. Using too much detergent can leave a film on the carpet, whereas not using enough will lessen the cleaning results. The Automatic Detergent Mixing System calculates the ideal water to solution ration and does the mixing for you.
Powerful Reach
With a 20 foot cord, you are unlikely to need to keep unplugging and plugging the carpet cleaner. It is a great inconvenience trying to clean a room and having to play hide and seek to try to find an appropriate plug socket. Fortunately, that isn’t an issue with the Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 as 20 feet is more than enough for most rooms.

Review Summary
Overall, we feel like the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 is a brilliant carpet cleaner. It is reliable, easy to use, low maintenance, and, most importantly, leaves your carpet looking spotless and smelling great after every clean.
FAQ
Below are a few frequently asked questions about the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150:
Q: Is this carpet cleaner suitable for pet owners?
A: Absolutely, this is one of the best carpet cleaners for people with pets. Puppies and kittens are especially hard to train, and understandably they have accidents inside the house. This carpet cleaner eliminates any traces of puppy poop and leaves the carpet looking and feeling fresh.
Q: Can the brush be shut off?
A: Yes, the brush can be shut off by opening the flap on the dirty water tank. Bear in mind that the carpet cleaner will not pick up liquid when the flap is open.
Q: Why do the brushes stop working?
A: The gears and bearings begin to rust over time due to having a lot of contact and exposure to water. Because of this, the brush stops turning.
Q: Can the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150 pick up fur balls that have been thrown up by a cat?
A: It is possible, however, not recommended. Cat fur balls are dense and could clock up the carpet cleaner over time.
